On America’s 250th birthday we’re not celebrating a living republic — we’re standing at its funeral. A few days ago the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that children born on U.S. soil to parents who are here illegally or only temporarily are still full citizens under the 14th Amendment. That means anchor babies remain the constitutional golden ticket and the border is now little more than a polite suggestion.
When citizenship becomes nothing more than a geographic accident, the word “American” stops meaning a distinct people with a shared inheritance and turns into a participation trophy handed out at the port of entry.
